Summer in Heisykha
These images are part of an ongoing body of work documenting the daily life of a single family living off the land in a tiny agrarian village in rural Ukraine. Though the overarching project explores more sober topics (e.g. aspects of family and village life that are increasingly vulnerable to economic, socio-political, and environmental volatility), it also also capture a relentless sense of joy that characterizes my time spent with this family and in the village. The intimate connection they have and maintain with their land not only supports, but also enriches their lives culturally, socially, and spiritually. This tiny edit of a much broader body of work expresses the family's ability to remain curious in exploring their immediate surroundings, which are simultaneously familiar and perpetually new.
