“Pour toi Arménie” is a song lyric written by Charles Aznavour (1989) as a tribute to Armenians in the sequence of the terrible earthquake that afflicted Armenia on 7th December of 1988. This event and the subsequent poem was also symbolic as the Armenian people faced other numerous historical torments, being itself an allusion to their nature that always brought resilience in the face of adversity.
Today, Armenians are still surrounded by unstable boundaries that are responsible for a sense of revival of the Aznavour poem. The recent events of 2020 are witnessing that the “Pour toi Arménie” is not a look into the past, but a recrudescence of something that never really disappeared from the Armenians’ fate.
The work was performed in the remote raw areas of the territory of Armenia during the beginning of the events that culminated in the recent rising of tension and war; they reflect the prodrome of an uncertain future that must be faced with the same and persistent “lueur d’espoir”.
