The fine art photography series project explores human-nature relationships through black and white portraits that match human with tree subjects alongside elaborations on the relationship between them, with most of the human subjects being connected to Singapore's cultural sector. The project seeks to offer conservation storytelling perspectives on Southeast Asian and Singaporean landscapes in the context of a shared global economy and growing society, following categories of tree species that are primal forest, natively cultivated, and symbols of tropes of the tropics, while using the monochromatic colour space to explore the shared reality and perspectives on existence of the beings of tree and human in the context of a shared world, perceived differently. Inspired by the perception that we live on a green planet, "The Tree Project" is a practice-as-research project asking about coexistence, communication across places and living organisms, and the dimensions of timelines that interconnect in the presence of each image. The project has been produced in close collaboration with Singapore Botanic Gardens under Nparks and interacting with the garden's topography of place, research, and diversity, as well as in partnership with Fujifilm Singapore.
The series contains over 20 human - tree photographs + additional nature photography and the age of the human subjects ranges from 2yrs - over 70rs. Currently, 2 images per week are released to my website and social media channels www.sarah-tabea-sammel.com and @sarahtabeasammel .
