From the Series White Balance
I am interested in photographic structures, history, and photography theory; my inquiries position the work between the analog and the digital.
The work Cotton is part of an exhibition White Balance that looks at the site-specific landmark in Atlanta, the Swan House.
Once the Swan House Mansion garage, the former coach house is located on the Atlanta History Center’s grounds; formerly it was the estate of Edward and Emily Inman. Their accumulated wealth originated through cotton brokerage and investments in transportation, banking, and real estate in the early 19th century.
While creating work for that space, I contemplate the light, geographic location and engage with the site’s complicated historical and social structures. The photographs also interrogate commonly accepted photographic tools that have historically determined the evaluation of light’s color and values.
