The Dnister is a river in Eastern Europe. It rises in Ukraine, then runs through Moldova and the breakaway territory of Transnistria. It finally discharges into the black Sea on Ukrainian territory again. After a military conflict between Moldova and Transnistria in 1992, the Dniester river is the borderline between the two states.
Since then Transnistria receives financial assistance and military support from Russia. Most of the Transnistrians are pro Russian whereas the population from Moldova is mainly pro European.
Many of the young people left their homeland in search for a better existence abroad.
