I've been Choreographing and Directing productions in the entertainment industry of Los Angeles for 16 years. But just recently, I converted my garage into a mini blackbox theater to test new ideas on my dancers. I had no intentions of taking stills. But little did I know that a photographer within me was being born, and my garage would become the playground.
These exceptionally gifted athletes also have an immense amount of humanity, which I'd never fully tapped into in our industry work. So I'd light them with home depot work lights, or the iphone, or whatever. We'd play music, bring in props, try things, and just have fun.
To me, the results don't feel like dance. But rather, like little love letters to performers who I've known for so long, yet somehow, just met. TT
