Meet the Moultons (part II)
The first time I photographed the family Moulton was two decades ago. I went back and found Nicky, the eldest daughter who has her own family now.
She started dating Brett when she was 18. One year later their daughter Kayley was born. The year after that, their son Hayden. After a couple of temporary stays at other people’s places she is happy that they have finally got their own spot, their own trailer in a trailer park. "My whole life revolves around raising children and being a mom. That's all I know. Every day is the same: I wake up, clean the house, take care of the children... that's it. I see no one, do nothing else... I have no clue what I'll do when they'll leave the house. Probably sleep all the time. I really don't know what I'd like to do, or what my dreams are. No one has ever asked me that question.”
Brett got to know Nicky thanks to his mother. “She was Nicky's manager when she worked at McDonalds. I was in a bad relation at that time. I had lousy friends, was addicted to painkillers, morphine and pills. Nicky was the best thing that happened to me. If it hadn’t been for her I wouldn't be here anymore. She helped me to get clean. We've been together for 12 years now and I still love her so much. I also love my children a lot. And I hope they'll do something with their lives. I know they can, but what do they want...? I try to live with the credo of the song of Kansas. All we are is dust in the wind. Just go along. That's how I stand in life."
