The Indecent Exposure idea was born some twenty years ago in London, triggered by the aloofness of the average Londoner toward, to me,
exciting people and objects alike.
The first image of the current series, Indecent Exposure - Britta, shows a woman exposing herself to a large group of pedestrians.
I wanted to show the confidence
of this woman during this moment of self-empowerment while taking the onlookers out of their comfort zone. The local residents in and
around this shoot location have a reputation for being a bit miserable and grumpy by default.
Looking at the photograph you can tell that many of them do that cliché justice while some can’t help but crack a smile.
I continued shooting the other three images over the coming year, one of which, Indecent Exposure - Anna,
was taken during the height of the Covid19 crisis, clearly recognizable by the mask-wearing onlookers.
An additional difficulty of photographic composition had to be overcome in Indecent Exposure - Catarina. The frame worked
just right from the chosen camera position but I decided, at the last minute, against using the models boots which then required her to jump
in the air a great many times to achieve the shown result. Her head, with her hair flying, breaks perfectly through the horizon line.
In image 4, Indecent Exposure - Lucas, the model managed to walk across the frozen bridge, which resulted in his losing feeling in his feet.
I am forever grateful to his and my other models dedication to help me pull this difficult production off, in particular during these uncertain times.
Shooting it was a fantastic experience, bringing an incredible adrenaline rush to both the brave models and myself, the photographer.
Thank you to everyone involved.
