This project made me think deeply about the concept of what it is that we call - home. As we still go through so many changes since Covid flooded our lives, home has taken a new meaning for me, my family and many others. Physically, home became the walls we lived in confinement for months but emotionally, we all found new appreciation for this Earth we live in. What is it that we call home? The country we are born in? Do we call home where we lived last? Is home inside the walls we built? Is home where we sleep? Is home where we build a dream? Or is home when we sleep under the stars?
Amidst all the sadness and uncertainty that we face, I felt an utterly yearn to turn my eyes to something softer, gentler, nurturing, instead of isolation for connections that we all long for, with others, with nature and this Earth we get to call home.
As the restrictions start to soften in Australia, I try to spend more days with the kids outdoors, at the beach, at a park. I am so grateful. My body tingles as I enter the ocean, I stay longer than I used to floating through the waves, the sun shines in a different way, maybe I see in a different way, the light is more powerful, as for myself, I am softer yet more resilient. And as I look through my lenses to try and capture these special moments, I am reminded of this wonderful quote, ‘If we all could see the world through the eyes of a child, we would see the magic in everything!’
