My father, Bruce, is unmarried, and lives with his brother. He works two jobs just to get by and rarely has time to decompress. He cooks during the day, throws newspapers at night and seldom sleeps more than four hours at a time. These images provide a window into his daily routine.
My father doesn’t open up easily or communicate well. However, he always finds a way during his busiest days to talk on the phone with me, proving how vital our relationship is to him. As his son, I am his therapist and his best friend— the most important person in his life and he relies on me for emotional support. My father feels unquestionably lonely in this world and incomplete without my presence.
Though I live many hours from home, Dad has a strong desire to be fully aware of what is happening in my life. He is the most selfless person I know and he’s always given me everything I need to ensure my happiness. I’m fortunate to have such a caring father in my life and I love him more than he could ever imagine. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that my dad will not be around forever. He means the world to me and I can’t imagine surviving without him.
