Days with Faith is a long-term project that documents caring for an elderly parent suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's. Faithie is my mother-in-law. My wife is her second daughter.
She came to live with us after failing to properly take her medications. A phone conversation with Cynthia led her to think she had had a stroke. Paramedics arrived at her home, broke down the door, and found her asleep in her bed. She hadn't had a stroke but was suffering from a severe urinary tract infection and taken too much of a new medication.
For the last two years, Cynthia and I, have served as primary caregivers for her, while still working at our respective careers.
This body of work was created to record the love and intimacy that exists between the daughter and their mother, who have not always enjoyed the best of relationships. This change of roles has not only resulted in the reversal of the child/parent dynamic but an opportunity to discover the importance and beauty of small intimate moments.
