I have been living in Europe for over 20 years now and more than 11’000 km from my home country. The longer I am away from my home country and the older I get, the more preoccupied I am with this very personal subject of “home” and the related history of my roots.
My homesickness became almost unbearable when Corona made travelling impossible. This was the moment when I started photographing objects, memories and photos from my native country to create my own home in Europe. It was the successful attempt to give my soul a little peace.
It was very important to me that everything in these photos comes from my home country Namibia. Even the sand and the stamps that form the background have accompanied me from the African continent to Europe.
In the sequence I show a small part of my work. Three generations from Africa – my grandmothers, my mother, my sister and me.
