Maria's husband died more than a decade ago and since then she has lived alone. She lives without a shower, sink, table or chairs. Her floor is the dirt and she waits for neighbor child to bring her a barrel of water per week. Her son lives nearby but his family is too poor to support Maria. She tries to visit her son everyday so he knows his mother is ok and alive.

Felipa Ramos Bocel Felipa never went to school. She and her husband lost their three children at their birth. When her husband died several years ago he left some things, but Felipa sold them so she could eat. At home, she sleeps on wooden boards on the dirt floor and spend time threading bracelets to sell in the street.

Luciana Simion Buch used to weave fabric to sell but now her bones are swelled under her skins and can not weave. Luciana vomits and has diarrhea all day as she can not afford pure drink water and drinks from the tap. Her son and grandson work as builder but work is never stable.

Rosa Guit Ramos depends on the lunch she receives. But some days she can not come to eat due to her swollen feet and she needs to stay in her bed. So she saves a little lunch for later or for another day. Once she has worked selling food at the market but she no longer be able to work. Her daughter works washing other’s clothes but just enough to feed her own family, not her mother.

Sabina Bocel lives with her husband who can not see well. At home her husband sleeps on wooden boards on the floor and Sabina sleeps on a cot in the kitchen. Their child drinks a lot and not work. Sabina takes half of her food to her husband who can not make it to lunch.
