Dream Wolf

All my photographs were originally captured in colour. I covered each photograph with a black and white layer to represent hidden truths. Thematically, personal and traumatic truths are revealed through the process of erasure. I carefully choose which areas of the black and white layer to erase, bringing existing colour to the surface. With each selection, I am exposing truth with coloured selections of the photograph as I consider a deeper cultural meaning. The black and white layer embraces my strength and spiritual connection to animals and the land. By covering and revealing the true colours of the photographs with a personal symbolic blanket as a ceremonial process, I discern my Metis identity. Revealed colours in my photographs: The red flowers (Indian Paintbrush) are symbolic of the MMIWG in Canada, including my Cree grandmother. Blue reveals the depth and strength of my Spirit. Green represents the fertility of my maternal ancestors. Finally, yellow envisions future my prosperity in sharing my stories.
