During the economic boom in the beginning of the 20e century, in the south of Liège, Belgium, there were a lot of steelfactories from Cockerill Sambre. They stood in the middle of residential areas. Later in the 20e century, the decline came on, the economy collapsed in Wallonie. Instead of industry you feel the absence. Residential areas feel empty and desolate.
because of the absence of people, you feel the human drama that as an undertone the photographs seem to connect. The ugliness of decline gets a poetic load
