OUR RELIGION IS ALBANIA
The communist regime's absurd fear of a threatening attack on the country led to Albania becoming one of the most heavily armed countries in the world at the end of the 20th century. In 1997, during an economic crisis characterized by the features of a civil war, the army lost control of the stocks of weapons that fell into the hands of people, killing more than two thousand people. Later legal regulations required the registration of weapons, but few people took advantage of it despite the threat of many years in prison, and today one gets the impression that although it is illegal, most Albanian families have it.
In the presented series of photos, we see both those who, by covering their faces, dared to show illegal rifles, and those who registered their weapons. One photo shows pistols for training at a shooting range, another shows a plastic rifle, an abandoned children's toy. Albania, July 2021.
