On Wednesday, October 9, 2019 the Turkish offensive into northeastern Syria began in Kurdish-dominated areas, began. The code-name Operation Peace Spring was chosen. It began with massive bombing and shelling of the city of Serekaniye, located on the border. Hordes of radicals recruited by Turkey to do the dirty ground work began pouring across the border into Kurdish territories. The civilian population began to flee the places that were still their homes and now had turned into a bloody front line. Within a few days they became refugees, living in tents in hastily built camps. The invasion was made possible by an agreement between Turkey and the United States which withdrew their troops from the border giving the Turks a a free hand to aggression. Turkey has been accused many times during the invasion of human rights abuses and violence against civilians. They are still administering the seized territories today, the international community has limited itself to a few verbal reactions.
