Still Dick is a photographic comment on the phenomenon of men sending dick pics, images of their own erect penises, to women, girls and gay men on social media and dating sites such as Tinder, without prior agreement.
When I became aware of this phenomenon and how widespread it is, I got the idea to investigate it in photography. I thought that if these men want their penises to appear in public, I would make an interpretation to high light the dicks but without them having power over anyone or interfering in people’s private sphere.
I decided to build scenographs that copy still lives by famous artists, and to add a separate detail – a penis. I made the images IRL in my studio, assisted by my husband. The men who participate are men who want to be part in this because they see it as a work of resistance against the toxic masculinity. The work has evoked many (liberated) laughters, mainly from women and has also created discussions and for me personally it has led to a reconciliation thanks to the brave male models who chose to be with me in my resistance project.
