In this series of polaroids I unbox past trauma and the physical, psychological pain that has come from it. These images are self portraits of my body photographed when in pain, each photograph has been distressed at the point of making. Using different materials and techniques I disrupt the image and its chemistry; damaging the emulsion to create strange abstractions. My body metamorphoses into landscapes, coastlines, weather fronts, fossils dug from the earth, or distant nebulae.
The act of creating these images has allowed me to process and understand my history, to sit with it, bring it to the surface and exorcise it from me into the images I make. An act of catharsis and ultimately of healing and hope
