My sweat, shy, stubborn and dear sister and I are almost the same age. Never ever did I think that she would die at such an early age: 61. We supposed to grow old together! Just before she got ill, I started my photo course. I asked her permission to photograph her during her illness and death. She agreed. So I followed her during one and a half year of illness. It was a painful and uncomfortable process. Now, almost one year after her death, I’m in the process of accepting that I lost her. Together with her wife Wilma, I am mourning. The last two years my sister in law and I developed a special new relationship. She allowed me to photograph her sorrow. In a series of eight portraits I want to give an impression of my sister, her illness and her grieving wife.
