Mari-Ann and Palle live with their two sons, Thor and Benjamin, in the outskirts of Aarhus, Denmark.
They met while Mari-Ann studied engineering and Palle worked as a smith and started a family soon after. Now, more than a decade later, their life looks radically different: Both too sick to work, Mari-Ann suffers from chronic depression and Palles back has given up on him after more than 30 years of hard manual work. The boys struggle with ADHD and a mild form of autism but stability and structure - keywords when having kids with these challenges - is hard to come by in a house with sick parents, screaming parrots and a constant lack of money and opportunities.
However not much help is provided. Mari-Ann and Palle have asked for support but so far not much have been done.
