Over the course of my career, several themes have emerged that were not intentional, but developed over a course of time as I pursued stories that interested me. One of those themes is Peace. I photographed the first Palestinian elections, a time where there was much hope of peace, unfortunately dashed. I have photographed Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tutu, and John Lewis, all agents of peace, as well as the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, site of Bloody Sunday, one of the most iconic events of the Civil Rights Movement. And children, who are a reminder of the imperative to find peace.
