I think that my career as a photographer began shortly before I knew I’d be one.
I create photographs, as I’ve seen and been told, that cause pause. I believe common occurrences and scenes that present every day can be casually noted in passing, then lost in a river of image flow. However, when that everyday view is offered as a still image, it becomes more visible and invites closer assessment.
I have a keen sense of what I should be doing. Photography itself has been the propellant, enabling a visual voice to explain what I’ve found to be interesting, odd, beautiful or otherwise. It makes up a great deal of my life.
I recently made a self-portrait and had a difficult time with it, as I’m not fond of being photographed. After a good number of un-satisfactory exposures I picked up my favorite camera to hold, instantly I felt peaceful, it was true proof of the comfort and enthusiasm I have for working the tools of my craft. And, I managed to make a rather nice self-portrait as well.
I’ve been truly fortunate in finding a life long profession that has been rewarding, exciting and meaningful, it’s given me much to be thankful for during my life.
