In 2012, Nirmal Purja climbed a mountain for the first time. 7 years later, he changed the face of mountaineering by scaling all 14 peaks above 8,000m in just 6 months, and he’s just getting started.
I photographed Nirmal for Red Bulletin UK in France September 2021 where he was training for his next two challenges:
- Learning to paraglide from high peaks to be even faster and beat his own world record
- Being the first person to climb K2 in winter without supplementary oxygen (which he succeeded in January 2021)
