With this series of intimate, documentative photographs, I am examining what it is to be a “family” when created outside of the traditional, heteronormative sense. I show the subtle nuances of the subjects that highlights the similarities along with their uniqueness. I capture everyday happenings and try to find a little bit of quirk to their lives that helps shine a light on the beauty of being a queer family.
By focusing on those I consider to be my chosen family, I hope to gain a more intimate understanding of what it truly means to be in a family and in turn, I hope the viewer will see a bit of themselves and their families in mine. Whether joyful, mundane, or painful, these experiences are what makes us the unique beings we are today.
