Hammam is a photographic series produced in Turkey between 2012 and 2015.It was inspired by the atmospheres of hammams, where curled up bodies seem to return to their maternal womb.
First time I came inside. It was hot.It was humid, I could ear the continuous water flow around me.A diffused light made me slowly loose the connection with the outside world. Men around me in peştemal would abandon their bodies in the hands of the tellak,to be cleaned.Once purified they would lay down on the sacred marble slab, as infants, fragile and vulnerable.
In those photographies of men there is intimacy and a feeling of surrender where the body is the echo of a much deeper emotional vulnerability that is often repressed in men and rarely shared.
