Wavescapes

It began behind a 4x5 view camera; plus I'd sometimes shoot "oceanscapes"--stripes of water and sky--with a Hasselblad, which was easier to use in dim light and in beachside breezes. Then, in 2015, I bought my first digital slr. At first, I worked hard to "slow down" and match the rhythm of seeing with my 4x5. Then one day I headed down to the beach and began to shoot waves only--no sky--and I discovered a new world of startling colors, patterns, and textures--especially when isolated by long lenses and at slow shutter speeds in near-darkness. And I was able to work with the LCD on the camera back to experiment and get instant feedback, instead of the days or sometimes weeks that might take with the 4x5. And I've been visiting that world ever since.
