CHELSEA

This photographic series focuses on walls, doors and back doors of different galleries in the New York City area of Chelsea. Whilst appreciative of the inherent beauty displayed on the walls and the gallery space indoors, most visitors, tourists, art collectors might quite often be totally oblivious to what can be discovered outside. These walls embraced New York’s best plays of Theatre and Film industry to end up becoming neglected spaces later on. These façades now parade some of the most prestigious commercial galleries in the world. These bricks exude history in abundance with each single brick telling a different story. This project aims at giving a certain relevance to those quite often neglected spaces through the textures, colours and shapes they are made of. Chelsea aspires to assemble the beauty in our daily lives, in the streets or sites that we have visited sometime. Any “random” corner or "empty" space, such as the façade of an art gallery, can reveal the enticing creative potential of the container and, in so doing, become the content. To create a different space with shades of light, textures and vivid colours, the photographer has framed the symmetries/asymmetries outdoors in contrast against the interiors always limited by the walls.
