In the last two decades, China has become one of the countries with the fastest aging population, which takes up more than 18% of the population of 1.4 billion, according to the seventh national census in 2021. And as a mega cosmopolitan city, Shanghai is also one of the cities with the fastest aging population in China, with the population of people over 60 takes up 35% of its 25 million residents. Only less than half of them stay with their children, and with the naturally cultural disdain on nursing homes, those who don’t prefer to live alone or only with their partners.
