Made in Senegal
'Made in Sénégal' is a continuation of the project ‘Made in Vietnam’, which started during an artist residency in 2013.
The project stands for food diversity and sustainability; the focus of this work is on small-scale farmers, family run food production businesses and livestock keepers. The images are accompanied by short stories about the individuals, highlighting their history and their importance for the communities in which they live.
“With my portraits I would like to acknowledge the people who are directly involved in food production and thoroughly rely on making a living from the 'fruits' of their hands. We often forget how labor intensive it is to produce what we eat. Especially in the Western world the connection between food and nature seems to get lost. I would like to reestablish a relationship with the origin of food provisions in between consumers and nature”.
