In her photo-series “A propos de Nice”, Christine Kisorsy takes the viewer to one of the longing places of “old Europe”, Nice on the French Riviera. The city, once known for its Mediterranean climate, its light and the special flair, was a refuge for the European upper class from the cold winters and for artists and intellectuals from political dictatorships and conformal everyday life. But here too, as in many formerly fashionable bathing and spa resorts, the former myth faded and has long been overtaken by a new reality. More and more Nice residents are being forced by property speculation and social displacement to leave or sell their homes or houses in the city centre and move to the cheaper areas on the outskirts of the town. There, a parallel world has formed which has nothing to do with the elegant, palmtree-lined avenues.
