'I am not your fantasy' is a hyper realistic photo series that challenges the Western notion of the 'exotic' female.
This series asks the audience to reconsider perceptions of the Eastern Female: Who is in control? Whose fantasy is this? The idea of the male gaze is reversed -all attention is directed back towards the viewer and enforces a sense of introspection.
Broadly speaking this work is a comment on the effects of consumerism and the fetishisation of the women who society deem to be ‘exotic’. These cultural stereotypes or simplifications still exist in today’s culture. The photos confront and spark a broader conversation about these societal issues and to underline their prevalence in contemporary culture today.
