Reversing the trend of mass consumption and far from social networks, the artist Verônica Alkmim França questions the culture of excess and its changing aesthetics in today's world. DELIKATESSEN is a visual reflection on the body submitted to the consumer market, the limits of advertising in the world of liquid modernity (Bauman) and what can be considered as Art.
Born in Diamantina, Minas Gerais, Verônica has lived for many years in Stockholm and has visited Brazil frequently in recent years. Her frequent travel between Brazil and Sweden has fostered in her a certain turning away from conventional artistic venues
DELIKATESSEN is a part of Veronica’s most recent studio productions.
The exhibition presents images composed of a multiplicity of organs, utensils, signs, mannequins, and other pieces. "Today's Special" presents what is valued now and no longer valued tomorrow; the unrepeatable, the vital ephemeral, the profound manifestation of the force of the present in questioning the reproducibility of Art itself.
The show contains large format images, installations, videos, afterword by Stélio Lage and technical support by Flander de Sousa.
DELIKATESSEN was recently exhibited at the Palacio das Artes in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais (29.01- 25.03.2018), Brazil and also extrapolated the gallery's exhibition space promoting an external intervention displaying scenes from the exhibition on digital panels of the city.
The project was supported by the Clovis Salgado Foundation, Secretary of Culture of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, the PAD Digital Circuit and the swedish institution Konstnärsnämnden - The Swedish Grants Arts Comiteé.
