All images are from a long-running project and exhibition book/catalogue entitled Crossing Borders, which addresses our current moment in both America and the world.
Borders occupy the headlines. And we often read these stories as though from a distance. But we are crossing borders all the time, in our own lives. Sometimes we don’t even know it. Gender, ageism, racial, political, financial, or class borders. Even if we are not moving, life is. And soon we are up against major change: a crossing must be made, whether we want to or not. Crossing borders is both reality and metaphor, geographical and psychological – one often entwined with the other.
