Susan and Abdelrahman are my neighbors, I live on the third floor and they live on the pavement.
Susan told me that she ran away from her husband, but she never told me why. She is keen to reiterate that she is not a beggar and it bothers her that people think of her as such, in fact, she does not beg, she simply has no home or job, but people help her without her asking.
When I show their photos the comment is always the same: poor them. This pietism bothers me because people cannot see beyond the surface of poverty, but above all they confuse poverty with misery. Susan and Abdelrahman despite their poverty defend their dignity and freedom.
I like to think that they are two artists of existence.
