American Landscapes

These images arise from a survey of images from the US Library of Congress image catalogue. They have been digitally manipulated into abstraction however I have attempted to maintain the feeling evoked by the original scene while interjecting compositional elements such as a color and shape, etc. . The idea being that our relationship to the past, to the historic and even nostalgic, is never without the intervention of the present context in which the viewer finds themself. My interventions - my blurring, my erasing, my colorizing - all lead to what is hopefully a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing abstraction.
