Rawness of Motherhood

In 2023, I undertook a project I entitled Fierce Mama. I wanted to capture non-traditional maternity portraits that showed the reality of pregnancy and not the stylised, airbrushed images in decadent gowns which have become so popular in recent years. I photographed three expectant mothers over a three month period. Coincidentally, each was carrying their second child. Madisson, who is depicted in these images, is a young mother being only in her early 20s, who has embraced the marks that pregnancy has left upon her body.
