Culture 666

Culture 666 is a soothing and absurdist photo series and tribute to the pixel aquariums and tropical travel vistas of Microsoft Windows’ 1990 Solitaire card deck. The series is shot on 35mm color portra using a 90’s ‘Panasonic Zoom’ point and shoot with a glutinous use of flash. The photo series started with the motels and souvenir shops of St. Pete, Florida and has traveled through Sicily, Copenhagen, London, Mexico City, Texas, Miami and Spain. The series is designed to flex from more selective large scale C-Prints to a 52 image oversized Card Deck that acts as the series ‘photobook.’ Accompanied by an infinitely variable digital Solitaire experience with ever rotating 666 series imagery, Culture 666 can be played from the comfort of your very own home or with friends in the exhibit space. Growing up in the 90s in Florida with beach outlets and a grandmother who was a solitaire prodigy, I spent a lot of time with the pixel pop artwork of Windows Solitaire which was originally launched as a sugar coated training program ‘‘to soothe people intimidated by the operating system.’ Culture 666 is my tribute to a global solitaire deck.
