This body of work, consisting of photographs taken from November 2021 to May 2023, expands further upon my interest in documenting urban environments and landscapes in which human activity has caused decay, damage, abandonment, and how the natural environment further effects this, sometimes speeding up the decay, resulting in plants to become overgrown, pavement to crack, paint to weather, and signs to bleach and fade. The ephemerality and entropy of these places draws me towards them, these places all have a life span and there is a story and entropic beauty in every place. I use medium format color film to further evoke a timeless quality to the photographs. This body of work is an expansion on ideas and themes explored in my 2021 Senior Thesis Exhibition The Consumerist Forest shown at the Cleveland Institute of Art, adding to the previous body of work. This is an ongoing project with the eventual goal being a hardcover photobook filled with my observations and explorations.
