Nature black and white photography is appealing to me because of the diversity and richness in textures. This is exacerbated with mountain photography, by different types of rocks and snowy surfaces and the strong light on clear days. I actually ended up buying a 6x6 camera for mountain photography, to be able to render such detailed beauty. Digital being at the time out of my budget, I was lucky enough to find an analog middle-format that has the avantage of being light. I discovered again the power of the chemistry of films, of the grains and the extra touch it brings.
This is my first series of black and white mountain photography with this camera. I was aiming at creating visual gratification from these rich not-so-empty spaces and the peace of mind induced by a visual meditation one enters by screening the nuances of shades, of patterns. For each shot this meant arranging the right composition and making strong trade-offs around what to show and not to show. In post-prod, finding the right inflexion point of exposure, contrasts, ...etc
