I was walking in Downtown Los Angeles when I spotted the words from a giant neon sign, on posts, being reflected on the wall across the street, backwards! I didn't have my camera with my, so a few days later, I returned, but no shadow. I returned several times, over many months, but to no avail! So I decided to shoot the sign straight, but from behind. Once I developed it, I was inspired to scan the negative and digitally remove the posts holding the giant letters. At the time, the presidential election was in full swing and the hate that was being spewed by so many because a black man was going to be president again, made me realize that despite years of opportunity, so many were still getting it backwards.
