When I first saw cliff dwellings and rock art of the "Ancestral Puebloan People" (formerly: Anasazi) in what is now Bears Ears National Monument, I was fascinated - and hooked.
Discovering the traces in the already wonderful landscape, imagining how people lived back then, wondering why many structures are so high up and inaccessible, or what the pictographs and petroglyphs might have meant, is a wonderful way to connect with the environment.
I had a great teacher who introduced me to the world of the Ancestral Puebpoan People. He also taught me that since the Monument gets more and more attention, the nature and sites are very endangered by visitors and tourists. So it is very important to me to say to people who want to visit the traces of the Ancestral Puebloans: Help to protect the sites! Visit with respect!
