What remains

The series "what remains" shows images I took in 2022 in the homes of two women who were very close to me: my grandmother and my mother-in-law. Both died at the age of 97 and lived in their apartments for over 65 years . One in a small village, the other in a big city. But does that make a difference in old age? In their last years of life, they almost never left these rooms. Even though the photos were taken in a short distance, there are 16 years between the deaths. While my mother-in-law died in February 2022, my grandmother has been dead since 2006. For 16 years my grandmother's apartment remained uninhabited and almost untouched. My mother has not been able to part with her mother's furniture and objects until today. Immediately after the death of my mother-in-law, I felt the need to photograph the apartment before it was emptied. Some weeks later, I also photographed my grandmother's apartment. It seemed natural to me to stage myself in these rooms and in the clothes of the respective inhabitants; only very vaguely, against oblivion.
