Light streaming in from window
I sat there quietly
Taking in the bright light
My bare thighs
My bound legs
My foot, his toes
The two legged daikon
My banana dream
This series of photographs evoked a sense of loss for me long ago. A young woman of my age whose family background and artistic aspirations mirrored my own was raped and murdered. Her body was dumped in the parking lot that dominated the view from the security-gated window of my apartment in New York Chinatown. Life goes forward as the emotional of these photographs pulled me backward. Each click of the shutter was an emotional release. What lay in the shadow was revealing as what was blinding in the light. Now in between shadow and light, I find my solace to keep going.
