Στίγμα – Gree, meaning: mark, sign

Before the European economic crisis, coastal development was one of the main focus point of the economy at the Mediterranean countries. Tourism is a key element of the economic activity in Greece. The Greek coastline is various and world famous. Due to the crisis the construction was stopped, the abandoned, empty ghost buildings not just spoil the visual impact of the landscape, but the natural environment of the beautiful coastlines disappeared under concrete. Places lost their soul and identity.
The images were made in Greece, where the building industry collapsed by the effect of the decreasing tourism. The half-ready buildings are drastically affected structures, spaces and landscapes and still standing as a stigma, a lifeless memento of the political, financial and social crisis. The deserted hotels, breakwaters create a tension between the concrete and the nature, what seeks to recover its own habitat.
