The photographs are part of my ongoing project titled Music and Hope aiming at researching the soul of music related people in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The images are the result of unique encounters with individuals who genuinely opened up to making me part of their world and their beauty. In our meetings, I felt the truth of their experiences and learned about the thinking in their life stories. That led to visual narratives that deal with emotions such as pain, strength, and resilience, as well as with themes such as ancestry, female empowerment, immigration, self-knowledge, social insertion, identity, and expression. In the search for meaning, I found brilliance, charm, magic, and light. The photographs manifest this depicting the deep singularity of those portrayed. Each person and each star so unique; yet, with a common ethics, precisely what turned my attention to the notion of hope. Hope is an attitude that points to the future and leads to a better life. I have come to believe that music is a window into the space to re-enchant the world. And, in this space, governing the day and night, the stars.
