ANACHRONISM
noun
1 : an error in chronology; especially : a chronological misplacing of persons, events, objects, or customs in regard to each other.
2 : a person or a thing that is chronologically out of place; especially : one from a former age that is incongruous in the present.
Over the past year I have found myself investigating the preconceptions of male archetypes and their construction that has been perceived throughout time. This is in an attempt for me to combat a felt anxiety that surrounds the expectations of being a 'man' in today's modern world of the pre-package.
In this world, where by forever riding the new wave of commodity is almost seen as a necessity, how exactly have these accepted ideas of men come to stand for anything more than a mere abstraction in today's accepted ideology?
In making an icon of a former age, a sense of nostalgia is a critical theme, as I feel we have lost a certain 'something' getting to where we are today. A feeling that can't quite be explained but nevertheless echoes from within.
In exploring these ideas, I have created these isolated, mystical and surreal worlds into which you, the viewer can dive. Blurring the lines between the past and the present, imagination and reality, of subjectivity and objectivity.
