The word "Menetekel" refers to an ominous warning. Even if the works submitted here are conceived as individual pictures, they can still be subsumed to a certain extent under this concept of the Menekel.
The pictures are all staged and develop from a combination of seeing, thinking and inspirational execution. It is difficult for me to describe the process in detail.
The pictures are to hang framed on the wall and measure 98.7 x 74 cm.
Artistic ideal
Leibniz's question "Why is there anything at all and not rather nothing?" is for me the only appropriate mode of astonishment that a work of art should attempt to trigger. When looking at a work of art, one should not be able to say more than that it is so. The true value of a work of art lies in its execution. There is a story about a classical musician who was once asked what the piece he had just played meant. He replied by playing the piece again.
Art should be stupid. It should gain no more from anykind of analysis than from a simple, childlike wonder. . It should be an echo of, or an imitation of, the Judean I am who I am. One should not speak before and of a work of art, but remain silent.
