Shipwrecked suburbs washed up on the shores of corroding time. Nostalgia feedback loops. Entropy spectres spread across the heartland, converging in dark waves of anterograde amnesia, encircling a country haunted by a future that never arrived.
…our time is out of joint carried along by an impure, impure history of ghosts." (Jacques Derrida)
Time itself is traumatic, a series of losses. Something absent affects what's present, a foreboding sense of doom. Undead pasts and lost futures.
"If the system can no longer grow, or if the excess cannot be completely absorbed in its growth, it must necessarily be lost without profit; it must be spent, willingly or not, gloriously or catastrophically.”
(Bataille, The Accursed Share: Volume 1)
Capitalism creates the traumas that it relies on to continue to exist. We are determinant of our own fate and simultaneously powerless within it. Our loss of the futures is also the loss we see in the future.
There's a hole at the centre of everything and it's always growing. I am seeing it. You are not escaping.
