Holi Festival in the UK
Project info

'Holi' is the festival of colours, a popular Hindu festival. In countries with large Hindu populations it is also known as ’Spring Festival’. The central ritual of Holi is the throwing of coloured powders so that everyone looks the same and universal brotherhood is reaffirmed. But most of all it celebrates the arrival of spring and awakening of vibrant new life.

The images in this series were taken during the Holi festivals from 2010 - 2014 at the Hare Krishna temple in Hertfordshire, UK. During those festival occasions many of the young Hindu worshipers came into Astrid’s makeshift studio in order to have their portraits taken.
